The local creators of the party game The Game of Things… are set to launch an app version of their game at an upcoming fundraiser for the Capitol Centre.

Quinn & Sherry Inc. will launch a test version of the Things… mobile app Nov. 2 at the Capitol Centre’s annual Hops & Vines event.

This is the first time the app will be made available to members of the public, who will have a chance to play the app and provide feedback as part of its beta testing.

“We have worked hard over the past three years to get the app just right, so it gives the players the same hilarious game experience the physical party game does,” president of Quinn & Sherry Inc. and co-designer of Things… Mark Sherry said in a statement.

“We are working with the Hops & Vines committee to make this a truly fun night and we will be on site to launch and laugh. Come visit us after the entertainment as we demonstrate the app and give you a chance to win a copy of one of our Things… party games.”

Capitol Centre interim executive director Cindy Forth called it “very exciting” to add the app launch to the fundraiser, given The Game of Things… has sold millions of copies.

“We have a sensational night already planned with the Second City Improv All-Stars live performance, music throughout the evening, wine and beer sampling, appetizers and a silent auction,” Forth said.

“The addition of The Game of Things… app launch with supporting sponsorship really adds something special to this year’s Hops & Vines event.”

The Game of Things… is a party game that presents players with provocative topics, such as “Things… you shouldn’t do when you’re naked,” and allows each player to say whatever comes to mind and gives everyone a chance to guess who said what.

The game has been played on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and last year the creators launched a single-panel comic based on the topic cards in the game.

Quinn & Sherry Inc. creative director and co-designer Tom Quinn said the company’s mission is to make people laugh as often as possible, making the theme of comedy at Hops & Vines a perfect fit.

“We hope that the app can match the success of the original party game with over four-million copies sold,” Quinn said. “The app also gives us easier access to the non-English speaking countries around the world.”
