As of midday Tuesday, CSIS noted that some Khalistani extremists maintain connections with Canadian citizens. This situation is particularly alarming as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Air India Flight 182 bombing, which killed 329 people.

CSIS distinguishes between non-violent advocacy for Khalistan and violent extremism. Some Canadians participate in legitimate and peaceful campaigning to support the Khalistan separatist movement. Yet, ongoing involvement in violent extremist activities by these groups continues to pose a national security threat.

India is accused of engaging in transnational repression against Khalistani supporters in Canada. Given the presence of these supporters, CSIS warns that Canada must remain vigilant regarding potential transnational repression activities.

CSIS emphasizes the need for stronger measures against foreign funding to community organizations. Failure to respond decisively could undermine public safety and democratic integrity.
