Celebrating Women’s Achievements

We embrace this theme as we celebrate our achievements and acknowledge the essential efforts required to protect gender justice from decline. In this endeavor, we pay tribute to the legacies of the feminists who paved the way for us and propel their spirit into the challenges that lie ahead.

This is a pivotal time. The hard-earned advancements we have achieved in the pursuit of equity and equality are facing organized opposition. Our livelihoods, financial stability, and autonomy are at risk.

In Canada, women frequently face disproportionate challenges during periods of economic uncertainty. From reductions in public services to the persistent gender wage gap, systemic obstacles remain where opportunities for success should exist.

The Importance of Gender Justice

As we navigate these difficulties, we are also facing a public health emergency that must not be overlooked. In Canada, a woman succumbs to gender-based violence every 48 hours. Unifor continues to lead the charge in urging all levels of government to recognize Intimate Partner Violence as an epidemic.

As advocates for feminism and labor rights, we understand that when we unite our voices, we don’t merely request change—we create it.

Honoring Feminist Legacies

Recognize Intimate Partner Violence as an Epidemic: It is essential for all levels of government to acknowledge Intimate Partner Violence as an epidemic in order to safeguard survivors, ensure funding for support services, and promote accountability.

Equal Compensation for Equal Contributions: Just remuneration that acknowledges the genuine worth of labor, particularly for Black, Indigenous, and women of color, as well as women with disabilities who are disproportionately affected by wage disparities.

Accessible Child Care: Every child deserves a spot in affordable, public child care as part of our national child care initiative.

Challenges to Gender Equality

Equitable Employment, Just Contracts: Fairly negotiated collective agreements and quality jobs that empower women to achieve financial independence.

Genuine Equity: Eliminate bias and lack of representation, guaranteeing that women are included in every decision-making forum.

On this International Women’s Day 2026, we stand united to advocate for the rights of all workers, seek justice against systemic inequalities, and strive for a brighter future.
