The recalled products include about 5.8 million Stainless King Food Jars and 2.3 million Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles. Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately and contact Thermos for replacements.

The containers lack a pressure-relief mechanism, leading to stoppers ejecting forcefully when opened. The Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that this can result in serious impact injury and laceration hazards.

The affected model numbers are SK3000, SK3020, and SK3010. These Thermos products were sold for about $30 at major retailers including Target and Walmart, as well as online from March 2008 to July 2024.

According to the CPSC, “If perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period of time, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened.” This design flaw has raised significant concerns regarding food safety.

Three consumers suffered permanent vision loss after being struck by the stoppers. The recall notice was issued on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website.

Officials have not disclosed how many additional injuries might have occurred without reporting. The issue indicates a long-standing problem with the product design.
