“Safety and clear communications will be priorities for the TTC during this time,” a TTC spokesperson stated, emphasizing the importance of efficient transit during the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

BMO Field, which will be temporarily renamed ‘Toronto Stadium’ for the tournament, is set to host six matches, including Canada’s opening game on June 12, 2026. This event marks a significant milestone for Toronto as one of the 16 host cities for the World Cup.

In preparation for the influx of fans, the TTC will increase service across all transit modes. Notably, streetcars on the 509 Harbourfront and 511 Bathurst routes will run every five minutes during peak hours from June 7 to July 24.

On match days, the Fleet Street Transit Hub will serve as the dedicated streetcar platform for pickups and drop-offs, ensuring smooth transportation for attendees. Additionally, the 29/929 Dufferin bus will have enhanced service on weekends and match days, while subway service on Lines 1 and 2 will also see increases.

In a recent friendly match at BMO Field, Canada faced Iceland, resulting in a dramatic 2-2 draw. Jonathan David scored two penalty goals to equalize after Canada fell behind 2-0 in the first half, showcasing the team’s resilience.

Canada remains unbeaten in their last five matches, a promising sign as they prepare for the World Cup. The upcoming tournament is expected to draw significant crowds, amplifying the need for effective transit solutions.

As preparations continue, fans are encouraged to join the excitement at BMO Field. “Join us at BMO Field as AFC Toronto faces Halifax in a high-energy matchup rooted in pride, ambition, and championship pedigree,” the team urged supporters.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional events or promotions surrounding the World Cup matches at BMO Field, but the anticipation is palpable as the tournament approaches.
