Colton Dach Joins Edmonton Oilers

“I think the part I love about Colton’s game is his energy and his style of play,” said Blackhawks general manager Kyle Bowman, highlighting the attributes that made Dach an appealing acquisition for the Edmonton Oilers.

In a recent trade, Colton Dach was moved to the Oilers from the Chicago Blackhawks, a significant step in his young NHL career. Drafted 62nd overall by the Blackhawks in 2021, Dach has been making his mark in the league, recording three goals and nine points in 53 games this season.

At just 23 years old, Dach hails from St. Albert, Alberta, and stands at 6-foot-4, weighing 218 pounds. His physical presence on the ice is notable, as he has laid 189 hits this season, ranking him 10th in the league.

Bowman further noted, “I think his skillset is going to match nicely,” suggesting that Dach’s transition to the Oilers could be beneficial for both him and the team. The Oilers are looking to enhance their roster, and Dach’s energy is expected to play a crucial role.

In addition to Dach, the trade also involved Jason Dickinson, who has six goals and 13 points in 47 games this season. Dickinson is on an expiring contract as a pending unrestricted free agent, and the Blackhawks retained 50 percent of his $4.25 million cap hit.

Blackhawks coach Jeff Blashill commented on Dach’s development, stating, “He’s definitely taken on a good spot of responsibility in terms of a lot of times he’s out there against the other team’s really good players.” This speaks to Dach’s growing role in the league and his ability to compete at a high level.

The Oilers traded Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 2027 first-round pick for Dickinson and Dach, indicating their commitment to strengthening their lineup for the future.

As Dach begins this new chapter with the Oilers, he is expected to bring not only his physical play but also a fresh perspective as he plays in his home province. “Playing in your hometown is a pretty good opportunity, but he’s just starting his NHL career,” Bowman added, emphasizing the potential ahead for Dach.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the immediate impact of this trade on the Oilers’ lineup, but expectations are high as they integrate both Dach and Dickinson into their strategy moving forward.
