Jamie Bell will take over the role of Duke Shelby in the new Peaky Blinders sequel series, which is set to premiere on April 2, 2026. The series will consist of two six-episode seasons, marking a significant expansion of the beloved franchise.
Filming is currently taking place in and around Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, England, as the production aims to capture the gritty essence of the city. The new series is set ten years after the events of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which was released on March 20, 2026.
In this new era of Peaky Blinders, the story unfolds in the early 1950s, a decade marked by the aftermath of World War Two. The official logline describes Birmingham as a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy, setting the stage for intense drama and conflict.
Steven Knight, the creator of the series, expressed his excitement about the new direction, stating, “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s.” He emphasized the brutal contest to rebuild Birmingham, highlighting the mythical dimensions of the narrative.
Other cast members joining Bell include Charlie Heaton, Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski. Knight noted, “We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast.” The character Duke Shelby was previously portrayed by Barry Keoghan in the sequel film.
The original Peaky Blinders premiered on BBC Two in 2013 and later moved to BBC One in 2019, gaining critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase. The series won the BAFTA for Best Drama Series for its fourth season in 2018, solidifying its place in television history.
As anticipation builds for the new series, fans are eager to see how the story will evolve in this new setting. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and as Knight stated, “Peaky is on the road again.” Details remain unconfirmed regarding additional plot points and character arcs, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats for what’s next in the Peaky Blinders saga.
