Jarren Duran shines in World Baseball Classic
“You can’t describe it. You have to be here to witness it, but it’s one of the loudest crowds I’ve been a part of,” said Jarren Duran, reflecting on the electric atmosphere at Daikin Park during the World Baseball Classic.
Duran, representing Mexico, hit two home runs against Team USA, showcasing his prowess on the field. He finished the game with a strong 3-for-4 performance, contributing to Mexico’s 5-3 loss to the Americans, marking Mexico’s first defeat in pool play and their first loss to the USA in the WBC in 20 years.
Before the WBC, Duran had an impressive spring training, batting .583 with three home runs, two doubles, and five RBIs in just five games. His home runs against Team USA came off left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd, further emphasizing his readiness for the international stage.
“When I hit that homer, the first thing I thought of was my dad and his family, and how I can represent them,” Duran expressed, highlighting his connection to his Mexican heritage. Born in California, Duran has always been proud to represent his father’s roots.
Prior to facing Team USA, Duran had already made headlines by hitting a home run in Mexico’s dominant 16-0 victory over Brazil. His performance has drawn attention, especially as he is expected to surpass his career high of 21 home runs this season if he remains healthy.
Reflecting on his contributions, Duran stated, “I feel like I haven’t done much for this team, and I didn’t do much in the last WBC, but it meant a lot to me.” This sentiment underscores his desire to make a significant impact in the tournament.
With the excitement surrounding his performance, fans are eager to see how Duran will continue to develop throughout the season. “It’s going to be fun to play them during the year,” remarked Roman Anthony, hinting at the anticipation for future matchups.
As Duran continues to make strides in his career, his recent performances serve as a reminder of his potential and the pride he takes in representing his heritage on such a grand stage.
