Maxx Crosby Trade Falls Through
The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of a trade that would have sent star pass rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to Baltimore. The proposed deal was significant, involving two first-round draft picks, but ultimately fell apart when Crosby failed his physical examination.
Crosby, who underwent surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, had missed the final two games of the previous season due to this injury. His recovery process has been closely monitored, and according to his agent, Crosby is recovering well and is ahead of schedule. “Maxx continues to be on track in his recovery and if anything is ahead of schedule according to his surgeon,” stated CJ LaBoy, Crosby’s agent.
Last season, Crosby had an impressive performance, recording 10 sacks and a career-high 28 tackles for loss. His ability to consistently reach double-digit sacks in four of his seven seasons has made him a valuable asset in the league. However, the Ravens, who are in a win-now mode with a first-year coach and quarterback Lamar Jackson, deemed the risk of acquiring Crosby too high after evaluating his knee condition.
The trade was agreed upon just days before the start of free agency, but could not be finalized until the new league year began. The Ravens, who ranked 28th in the league in sacks last season, will now need to find a new pass-rusher to bolster their defense.
The Raiders, on the other hand, hold the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and are expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Additionally, they recently signed Tyler Linderbaum to a three-year, $81 million contract, which includes $60 million guaranteed. With $112 million in salary cap space entering free agency, the Raiders are in a position to make significant moves.
As for Crosby, he expressed confidence in his recovery, stating he was “ahead of schedule” in his rehab. However, the exact reasons behind the Ravens’ decision to back out of the trade remain unconfirmed, leaving both teams to reassess their strategies moving forward.
Looking ahead, the Raiders will likely seek another trade partner for Maxx Crosby, as his talent and experience could still attract interest from other teams in the league. The timeline for Crosby’s full recovery is also unclear, adding another layer of uncertainty to his future in the NFL.
