Mike Reilly recorded two assists in a 3-0 victory over the Flyers during Game 1 of the NHL playoffs.
This marked Reilly’s first points in the postseason after missing time due to injury. He had been sidelined and did not play in the first-round series against the Senators.
As of early Tuesday, Reilly filled in for Alexander Nikishin, who was out due to concussion protocol. Reilly finished the game with a plus-3 rating.
His two assists were significant, as they were his first points since March 14 against the Lightning. Prior to this game, he had accumulated nine points over 42 regular-season appearances.
Reilly’s playoff experience includes six points over 21 postseason outings prior to this year. The 32-year-old veteran player has shown resilience and skill despite his lengthy absence.
Rod Brind’Amour, head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes, commented on Reilly’s performance, stating, “We were kind of thinking Nikishin was gonna play, but he didn’t. But Reils has done this all year.”
Brind’Amour also noted the importance of securing a win, saying, “It’s important to get a win, but I don’t know how much one game goes to the next.”
The Hurricanes will look to build on this momentum as they advance deeper into the playoffs. With contributions from veteran players like Reilly, their chances improve significantly.
