A motorcycle skills event is scheduled for May 2, 2026, on Vancouver Island. The BC Highway Patrol and several organizations are hosting the event to improve rider safety. This comes as a tragic motorcycle crash in Quesnel has claimed the life of a young man.

A 20-year-old man from Quesnel died in a motorcycle crash at 4:38 p.m. on April 25, 2026. The collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 97 and Cedar Avenue. The driver of the SUV involved in the incident was uninjured.

The upcoming motorcycle skills event has been running for years and expects to attract over 100 riders this year due to favorable weather conditions. Corporal Michael McLaughlin stated, “You will have skilled police officers guiding you through a course that’s based on our own police motorcycle training patterns.” This initiative aims to promote motorcycle safety among riders.

The investigation into the Quesnel crash is ongoing. Sgt. Clay Kronebusch urged anyone who witnessed the events leading up to the fatal collision to contact the Quesnel RCMP. No timeline has been shared regarding the conclusion of this investigation.

This incident follows another tragic motorcycle crash involving Sgt. Brandon Malcolm of the Ontario Provincial Police, who died at age 33. OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique remarked, “Malcolm served his community with dedication to duty, honour and made the ultimate sacrifice.”

The contrast between these events highlights ongoing concerns about motorcycle safety. While one community mourns a loss, another prepares to enhance rider skills and awareness.
