Taleaana Ramirez is making headlines in high school softball. As of early Tuesday, she is hitting .800 with impressive stats that could position her to set a new state record this season.
In her first 13 games, Ramirez has scored 38 runs and driven in 24 RBIs. She also boasts 18 extra-base hits and has stolen 28 bases. This performance places her among the top contenders for the IHSA records.
Ramirez previously set the program career record with 112 stolen bases last May. She is now challenging Emily Crompton’s state record for batting average, which stands at .768 from 2018.
Coach Charles Simmons praised Ramirez’s consistent performance over the past three years. “It’s to the point where I’m surprised when she doesn’t get on base,” he stated.
Ramirez has also contributed significantly with six doubles, six triples, and six home runs this season. Her ability to excel at multiple facets of the game is remarkable.
Other players are also making their mark. Skylar Welcome currently holds a .684 batting average, placing her 15th on the state list for 2024.
Recently, Manteno’s softball team faced tough competition at the Battle at the Brickyard. They beat Peoria Notre Dame but lost to Benet and Yorkville.
The season is still young, and many eyes will remain on Ramirez as she continues to pursue her goal of breaking state records. Fans are eager to see if she can maintain her extraordinary batting average.
