Brian May’s Floral Donation to Elstead Thwarted by Safety Concerns

Brian May’s plan to donate 3,000 daffodil bulbs to Elstead village has been thwarted by local authorities due to safety concerns. The Elstead Parish Council rejected his proposal, citing potential hazards for traffic.

May expressed disappointment, stating, “We were all hoping to adorn the main Village Green for next Spring … but sadly the Parish Council last night rejected my plan.” He added that the council’s main objection was that the sight lines on the Green would be affected.

This setback comes despite May’s popularity and influence, as he boasts 3.6 million followers on Instagram. His efforts were part of a broader initiative called Team Daffodil, aimed at beautifying the community.

The rejection of May’s donation is particularly striking given his status as a local hero. Last year, he successfully donated 3,000 daffodil bulbs to the same village, which were well-received.

In addition to his philanthropic efforts, May is also preparing for a Queen tribute show titled “One Vision of Queen,” featuring Marc Martel. This event is scheduled for August 14th at the JAG Soundhouse.

May recently paid tribute to guitarist Jeff Beck, who passed away in January 2023. He compared Beck to Mozart and described him as one of the greatest musicians on the planet.

The next meeting of the Elstead Parish Council is set for May 20th, where further discussions may take place regarding community initiatives and safety regulations.
