“When thunder roars, go indoors,” warns Emergency Management Ontario.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for London, Ontario. Thunderstorms are expected to develop early Tuesday morning.

Hail up to the size of a toonie is possible. Wind gusts could reach 70 km/h.

As of midday, Emergency Management Ontario advises residents to take cover if threatening weather approaches.

In parts of the U.S., softball-sized hail has already been reported. This week, over 700 reports of hail at least the size of a quarter were received by the U.S. Storm Prediction Center.

A trained spotter in southern Wisconsin reported a hailstone measuring around 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter.

The storm in southern Ontario has prompted Canada’s first tornado warning of the year.

So far, we haven’t seen any reports from London, but that size of hail could damage property, according to meteorologist Yosef Mengesha.

Rainfall amounts between 5 to 10 millimeters are expected. The daytime high temperature will be around 23 degrees Celsius, feeling like 28.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding specific damage or impact as conditions develop.

On Wednesday, there is a 60 percent chance of showers with a high temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.
