History Ottawa is poised to make a significant impact on the local entertainment landscape with the opening of a new music venue on Rideau Street in August 2026. This venue, which will accommodate 2,000 guests, aims to revitalize the ByWard Market area and enhance Ottawa’s cultural offerings.

The inaugural performance is set to feature The Wallflowers on August 20, 2026, marking a new chapter for live music in the city. The venue’s preliminary lineup includes popular acts such as Kaleo, The Pretty Reckless, and Sabaton, promising a diverse range of entertainment for music lovers.

Bronwyn Campbell, who has an impressive 11 years of experience as the general manager of the Commodore Ballroom, has been appointed as the general manager of History Ottawa. She expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “I’m thrilled to be leading the History Ottawa team.” Rob Feller, with 12 years in the live music industry, will serve as the senior operations manager.

History Ottawa is expected to host around 150 events annually, creating approximately 300 full- and part-time jobs. This expansion follows the success of the Toronto location, which opened in 2021, and reflects a growing demand for mid-size venues in the region.

Ali Shafaee, a spokesperson for the project, emphasized the need for such a venue, saying, “We thought that the only way to be able to do that is to build a mid-size venue in Ottawa.” The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the city’s entertainment district and attract more visitors.

As the opening date approaches, details remain unconfirmed regarding additional acts and specific event schedules. However, the excitement surrounding History Ottawa is palpable, as it promises to be a cornerstone of the local music scene.
