A stolen BC Transit bus caused significant disruption in downtown Kamloops early Tuesday. The bus crashed into another vehicle, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The incident led to an hours-long closure of Lansdowne Street. A passenger was on board the bus at the time of the crash.
BC Transit expressed concern over the emotional impact of such incidents. “We understand the emotional impact of an incident like this, and our thoughts are with the passenger,” a spokesperson stated.
In a separate incident, a 28-year-old woman faced charges after her vehicle hit a utility pole while impaired by drugs. Authorities have not confirmed whether there is any connection between the two events.
Meanwhile, a North Bay man is facing serious penalties for operating an unlicensed vehicle for hire. He has been charged with 12 offences under the Highway Traffic Act, accumulating fines totaling $7,560.
Each charge related to this unlicensed operation carries a fine of $630. Insp. Scott McFarlane emphasized that public safety relies on licensed vehicle-for-hire services.
As of midday Tuesday, details surrounding the cause of the bus crash remain unclear. Investigators are looking into how the bus was stolen and what led to the collision.
The community continues to feel the effects of these incidents. Traffic violations and impaired driving are ongoing concerns for local authorities.
More updates are expected as investigations proceed into both incidents. Local officials encourage drivers to remain vigilant while navigating busy streets.
